Visiting Hellbrunn with children

Why the trick fountains are a rare palace children actually beg to visit.

Updated July 2026 · Hellbrunn Palace Tickets Concierge Team

Most palaces ask children to keep quiet and not touch. Hellbrunn does the opposite — it sprays them. It's one of Salzburg's most genuinely family-friendly outings.

Why kids love it

The hidden water jets turn a garden walk into a game of dodge-the-spray. Children spend the whole tour trying to guess where the next soaking will come from — and usually guessing wrong.

Tickets for families

Under-4s go free. Children 4–18 use the child ticket, and the family ticket bundles two adults and a child with more children addable at checkout — all on one time slot.

What to bring

A change of top for little ones on hot days, and shoes that cope with cobbles and a little water. There's plenty of free garden to run around afterwards.

Frequently asked

Will small children get scared by the fountains?

Almost never — the jets are gentle and playful, and most children find getting splashed the best part.
